The PI 640i CM package is designed for continuous thermal condition monitoring and early fire detection in tough industrial and outdoor settings. Built for reliability, the system includes a 640 × 480 px thermal camera and a built-in HD video module (1280 × 720 px). It is enclosed in a sturdy IP66 outdoor housing that has a Germanium protective window, an air purge collar, and a built-in heater and fan. This setup ensures consistent operation from –40 °C to 50 °C. It maintains stable measurement accuracy even in areas with extreme temperature changes, airborne contaminants, and dust from the wind.
The USB-Server Gigabit (PoE) enables smooth integration of the imaging streams into existing video management and SCADA systems. This supports remote operation, long-distance data transfer, and centralized alarm supervision. With a thermal sensitivity of 40 mK and optics options from 15° to 90°, the PI 640i CM can detect small heat changes and locate thermal issues across large conveyor paths, fuel storage areas, or electrical substations. Unlike handheld inspections that are manual or periodic, the fixed-install design allows for true 24/7 monitoring and automatic escalation workflows based on temperature thresholds.
Its uses include substations, coal and biomass conveyor systems, waste facilities, lumber yards, and storage bunkers where heat buildup, friction, or spontaneous combustion are constant risks. In utility infrastructures, the system tracks thermal distribution in aging components. It identifies resistive heating in breakers, busbars, and transformers before failures lead to outages or blackouts, lowering potential costs and enhancing grid reliability.
Accessories like the industrial air purge, wall mounting bracket, and optional interfaces for alarm triggering increase flexibility for deployment in multi-camera areas. With German engineering, extended support, and full PIX Connect software integration, the PI 640i CM provides a cost-effective, pre-configured condition monitoring platform.
