The Bottom-Up GIS 640i G7, or Bottom-Up Glass Inspection System, sets a new standard for measuring temperature and controlling processes in glass tempering lines, particularly when making Low-E (low-emissivity) glass. Low-E coatings greatly lower emissivity, making traditional top-down infrared measurements unreliable as the glass exits the furnace. By moving the measurement point beneath the line, the system completely resolves this issue and allows for consistent monitoring that does not depend on the coating. The setup includes two PI 640i G7 thermal cameras installed under the roller conveyor. These cameras measure the non-coated, high-emissivity side of the glass in a line-scanning mode. With a VGA optical resolution of 640 × 480 pixels, a 7.9 µm spectral range, and temperature ranges up to 1500 °C, the system provides accurate and repeatable thermal process data. When operating together, the system achieves a maximum 1600-pixel scan line, enabling full-width inspection across a width of up to 4.3 m from a distance of 90 cm. To ensure maximum safety during production, the Bottom-Up GIS includes a fast CTlaser 4M glass breakage sensor and a Digitally Controlled Lens Protection (DCLP) shutter system. If glass breaks, the shutters quickly cover the optics, ensuring ongoing operation, reducing downtime, and lowering maintenance risks. The system comes as a pre-assembled turnkey package with industrial interfaces, a USB Server Gigabit, a control cabinet, a remote control box, and license-free PIX Connect software. This setup turns into a powerful online thermal camera solution featuring measurement zones, profiles, alarms, and glass area calculations, making it perfect for optimizing furnaces, assuring quality, and improving yields in architectural and automotive glass production.
