Description

Low-emissivity (Low-E) glass is designed to improve building energy efficiency. However, it poses challenges for traditional infrared measurement because the coated surface reflects ambient radiation and emits limited thermal energy. The Optris Top-Down Glass Inspection System (GIS) addresses this issue by using two high-resolution PI 640i G7 online thermal camera units mounted above the tempering line. It also includes a CT G5L reference pyrometer installed underneath for automatic emissivity correction on both standard and Low-E glass. This dual-sensor setup provides stable and repeatable temperature data right after the furnace, allowing for precise control of heating and cooling zones. The PI 640i G7 Infrared cameras create a detailed thermal map with a resolution of 640 × 480 pixels, a fast frame rate of 32 Hz (up to 125 Hz in line-scan mode), and excellent thermal sensitivity. Together with the integrated line scan function in PIX Connect, the system supports continuous monitoring of fast-moving glass sheets. It can quickly detect defects, cold spots, or uneven temperature patterns. A significant feature is the digitally controlled lens protection system (DCLP), which keeps the optics clean without requiring extra air purging. This ensures reliable long-term operation in harsh furnace conditions. The system is delivered as a pre-assembled turnkey package that includes a control cabinet, industrial process interface, shutters, and complete cabling. This leads to fast installation and minimizes production downtime. For customers, the Top-Down GIS provides clear benefits: fewer rejects, improved process stability, higher throughput, and consistent quality of tempered glass for architectural glazing, façade glass, insulated multi-pane units, and coated specialty products. As an effective online thermal cameras solution, it makes temperature distribution visible in real time, transforming thermal data into a valuable tool for quality assurance and optimized glass hardening processes.
